What is ASTM A479 Bar?
The ASTM A479 can be described as a standard specification used in stainless steel bars. They are available in customized shapes and sizes which are available for use in boilers and also the pressure vessels. This material specification is available in four grades, which includes the includes austenitic, austenitic-ferritic, ferritic, and martensitic grades. They possess good mechanical properties like high tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, etc. These are available in both hot and cold finished bars.
ASTM A479 316
The ASTM A479 316 products are widely used in various manufacturing industries. It is in fact one of the core components of any industry that mostly depends on machinery, like textile, construction, fabrication, etc. They have excellent high temperature properties including high ductility and weldability. They are typically designed for several high temperature services. It can also resist oxidation upto the temperature of 1150 degrees C, in continuous services but it should be ensured that reducing sulfur gasses are absent. For intermittent services, they can be used upto the temperature of 1040 degrees C.
ASTM A479 304

This material specification is very versatile and thus products made with it are used for a wide range of applications across industries. They have excellent welding and formation characteristics. The grade 304 comes with an austenitic structure, which helps it to be severely deep drawn without any intermediate annealing.
Difference between ASTM A479 Forged Bar and A479 Type 316 Rod
The ASTM A479 Forged Bars are corrosion resistant, and they are capable of tolerating the alkaline solution. That is why they are used in chlorine and acidic environments. Due to all these properties of the ASTM A479 Forged Bar, it is used in applications like machining, construction, etc.
The ASTM A479 Type 316 alloy is very ductile and they come with high formability. These bars can be both hot or cold worked. However, several manufacturers prefer the cold worked variant as they have enhanced hardness and high tensile strength. They become slightly magnetic in the cold working conditions and that is why the application is used in products which require magnetism.
ASTM A479 Type 304 Hex Bar
The ASTM A479 Type 304 Hex Bars are very versatile and hence they are mostly used as connectors between the bars present at the middle. They have excellent welding and formation characteristics. The grade 304 Hex Bars comes with an austenitic structure, which helps it to be severely deep drawn without any intermediate annealing.
