What is The L in Stainless Steel 304L Round Bars?
The L in the 304L Round Bars indicates that the alloy is the low carbon version of the 304 grade stainless steel. The 304L round bar scomes with improved weldable properties. It can effectively resist sensitization from grain boundary precipitation. This is why they can be used in as-welded condition. However, due to the low carbon content, these round bars come with a lower tensile strength and yield strength. Thus the Stainless Steel 304L Round Bar has higher resistance to corrosion and enhanced weldability, but they are not very structurally sound. Thus, these should be used in applications that need welding but no superior strength properties.
What is AMS 5647?
The AMS 5647 is the AMS number of the 304L grade stainless steel. The specification offers exactly the same material as 304L ss, and hence the properties like corrosion resistance and high weldability are also the same. Different types of products like bars, wires, forgings, tubing, etc., can be made with the help of this stainless steel grade.
The SS 304LRound Bars are annealed and they remain non-magnetic in that condition. However, it might get slightly magnetic due to cold-working or welding. The annealing takes place with the help of standard fabrication procedures. The annealing of the 304L ss round bars are achieved by heating the material above the temperature of 1037 degrees C for 90 minutes per 25mm thickness. This is followed by water or air quenching. By properly following the annealing process, the corrosion resistance capabilities of ss 304L round bars can be significantly improved.
The 304L ss is a versatile material which is also a general purpose stainless steel which can effectively resist atmospheric corrosion. The dual certified 304L Stainless Steel Bars implies that the given material meets the low carbon limits of the 304L stainless steel but it has a slightly higher strength level of 304 grade ss. Thus, the dual certified products acquire the best properties from both the ss grades.
